Day 5.1 - Arrivederci Roma

Our last morning in Rome was all about getting ready for our departure and the train ride to Florence. We packed our bags, said our goodbyes and made our way to Termini, the main train station in Rome.
It was sad saying goodbye to a city which in little over three days had become so familiar to us, but it was a sadness tempered by the excitement of discovering a new city.
Packed and ready to go
On arriving at Termini station, we needed to kill some time while we waited for the train to arrive. Between a good book, McDonald's and the station's free wifi, the boys found a way to gobble up some of that waiting time.

Security was really high in the station, as it has been all over Rome and, we would soon find, over Florence as well. We heard about the attacks in Brussels as we were preparing to board our train and our hearts went out to all affected by it.

We boarded our train and then came the time the students had been dreading. I produced the work they had to have done while they were aware. I expected groans; I didn't get them. Instead the boys were resigned to be doing work and they got straight into it. As the countryside of Lazio and then Tuscany flew past our windows, the boys were doing their schoolwork.

Two hours and a bit after we left Rome,we were in Florence and ready to take on this new city.
